In celebration of the dedicated individuals transforming healthcare in Senegal, we shine a light on Adama Niasse, a community health actor at FOHSEN whose commitment to serving her community has made a lasting impact over the past two years.
Committed to Health and Community
Adama joined FOHSEN because of its mission to help her community. “I wanted to work with FOHSEN because they came to help my community,” she explains. Her work focuses on addressing the health needs of those who might otherwise go without care, making healthcare more accessible at the local level.
Supporting Health Through Home Visits
In her role, Adama conducts home visits to identify individuals who may be ill but are not seeking care. These visits include health screenings such as blood sugar and blood pressure checks. She also provides follow-up support for pregnant women, maintaining regular contact to monitor their well-being.
Growth Through Service
Over her two years with FOHSEN, Adama has experienced personal growth and renewed motivation in her work. She emphasizes the dedication required in healthcare: “Whether as a volunteer or in a paid role, you have to be committed to the work,” she says.
Why FOHSEN’s Work Matters
Through initiatives like home visits and consistent follow-up, FOHSEN reaches those who might otherwise be overlooked by the health system. Adama’s service reflects the organization’s mission of bringing healthcare directly to communities and improving lives one visit at a time.
